Last week's highlights

The króna depreciated by 6.4% last year.

Statistics Iceland estimate that the surplus of trade in goods and services was ISK 102.5 bn in the first 10 months of 2018.

The housing price index for the capital region increased by 0.1% between months in December, bringing the 12 month change to 5.9%.

The average number of employees (wage earners) during the 12-month period November 2017 – October 2018 increased by 3.3% compared to the previous 12-month period.

Registered unemployment was 2.7% in December, an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared to December 2017.

The week ahead

On Wednesday, Statistics Iceland will release the monthly wage index for December.

On Thursday, Statistics Iceland will release the results of its monthly labour force survey for December.

Icelandic Economic Weekly: Monday 1 April 2019

The consumer price index increased by 0.52% MoM in March. The headline number decreased from 3.0% to 2.9%. WOW air stopped operating. There was a 1% increase in overnight stays last year. The CBI released its Annual Report. The CBI published an English translation of its Governor’s speech and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board’s address to the annual general meeting. The CBI released its quarterly Economic Indicators.
